Street Signage Support
Mission
We, the family members of Regina R. Nelson seek to have the corner of 191st Street and 104th Avenue named after Regina R. Nelson in recognition of her dedication to Community Board 12 and surrounding communities.
Statement of Purpose
Regina R. Nelson dedicated her life to service. In addition to her work in the religion based missionary work, Regina had a series of other service initiatives including elder care, mental health reform, health care, college preparedness, and food prevision. Prior to her passing, Regina was in talks with people in the neighborhood about an annual block party. She also had a vision of feeding the community and providing giveaways during this block party.
Symbolism matters. Regina R. Nelson’s name and memory are tied to service, compassion, and strength. We seek this symbolism in the form of a street sign. A sign with her name, on the corner of where her family home is located. A home that housed those in need and was a place of refugee for many. This sign would be a symbol to remind us to live with compassion, to practice gratitude and to love one another. True unconditional love. The kind of love Regina gave us. The kind of love that uterine cancer cannot eliminate. A love that lives on, Forever.
